Peridot Is August

Peridot is the birthstone for August and the 15th anniversary gemstone.

The ancient Egyptians mined it on the Red Sea island of Zabargad, and called it the gem of the sun. It is one of the few gemstones in only one color. It is the lime green tone that is most recognized.

Some believed it a gift of Mother Nature to celebrate the annual creation of a new world.

Peridot Origin

peridot, attributesThis crystal forms at very high temperatures from liquid magma.

The crystals are also found in meteorites. Some are big enough to facet as cut gemstones!

Most is found in Arizona but it is also found in China, Myanmar, and Pakistan. Although its color ranges from yellowish-green to brown, the bright lime greens and olive greens are the most desired.

Peridot is a smaller size crystal; three carats are very common. So gemstones that are over five carats are rare and highly valued. 10 to 15 carats’ Peridot are even more rare.

Judy Hall calls it a jewel fit for a queen.
