June

To say that this past month has been stressful would be an understatement…

June is probably my favorite month when it comes to business. Here in the Northeast, school lets out and teachers, as well as students do a happy dance. In my case, it also means I can give more attention to my blog and my shop.

During the school year, it is hard to keep up with posts and publishing new designs onto my shop. June comes along and it gets me going.

But, this past month  was not to be. It has been overwhelming, difficult, stressful, and downright discouraging. My website has been bipolar: perfect for a day, off line for a week.

I try to keep this site as secure as possible, so anytime I find another security update, I’m all over it! My shop utilizes its own security measures and I do not have to worry about it. And, although my blog doesn’t require it, I make sure it also complies with the new, stricter rules being enforced.

I found what I needed and updated and all was well until I took it a step further.

Registry or Host

My dissatisfaction with my host had slowly but surely grown and I went looking for a new one. I thought I had found it and began the migration process. Or so I thought…

My new choice turned out to be only a registrar. They are not a hosting company, so my site wound up in limbo. One day it would be there; the next it was non existing…

I won’t get into every detail because I really don’t want to bore you. I learned more this past month than in all the time I have had a site. (19 years…) I decided to register with my former host hoping it would fix the issues.

It did not…

The biggest problem with my site was me. I am not a programmer. I can understand things but when it comes to getting into the files and tweaking them, I’m out of my element. And even if I could, I couldn’t access my files! I need a host who will take care of the technological issues that arise.

The help staff at the hosting company has been working at it since June 18th with no success. Do you have any idea what it feels like when you cannot access your dashboard? … when you cannot write a post? … when you can’t see your site pop up when you visit it? It is like a piece of me was missing, dead. All my work just gone, vanished.

A New Day

I woke up today ready to make some much needed appointments, and off the top of my head, decided to go to my former registrar’s dashboard and switch my nameservers back to the way they were in February, before I made the switch.

Wadda you know? Here I am writing this post!

I do not want to cry victory. I fear I can get too content and then lose it just like I regained it. But for now, I’m writing again! I am going to copy every single page and post and keep multiple copies on different computers and drives. Paranoid? YES!

So, let’s just say it was a very difficult month keeping my site up and running securely.

SO, WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Has this ever happened to you?
