Citrine is November’s birthstone and the 13th anniversary gemstone. It is a variety of quartz that ranges from pale yellow to brownish orange in color.  Its yellow hues are caused by traces of iron in quartz crystals. These transparent crystals are found in all sizes as geodes, points, and clusters.

The largest producer of this quality gemstone is Brazil. They also come from France and Russia.  In the U.S., most comes from Colorado, North Carolina, and California.

It measures 7 on the Mohs’ scale, making it a rather hard and durable gem.

History

In antiquity, many believed that citrine could calm tempers and soothe anger. Wearing the stone could bring prosperity, so Egyptians used them as talismans, and Roman priests wore them as rings.

Citrine was carried as a protection from evil thoughts. 

The warm color of Citrine is said to be a gift from the sun. However, use caution placing or storing your crystal as it will fade in sunlight.
