Copper Chrysocolla Earrings

Shiny Copper is hand forged to create my own interpretation of Taino art. Natural Chrysocolla beads are the centerpiece!! I played with telephone wires when I was a little girl. They were covered in really colorful plastic and I loved making rings with them. I guess I'm still a little girl!!! Check out Scrolls to read more about my love for wire.

Chrysocolla

This is one of my favorite stones! Many years ago, a colleague told me about this stone. She said that there were times when she would get nervous and would speak and the words just wouldn't come out. She considered herself a shy woman. Kidding around I said she was in the wrong profession. We are both teachers.

She continued to tell me that it was okay because she had a secret; a special stone she carried with her at work or when she went out on a date. The stone was Chrysocolla.

Given my interest in Gems and Crystals, I researched it at our school's library. You could say that this was part of the beginning of my interest in more than just the beauty of Gems and Crystals. I devoured the books.

Chrysocolla is stunning! My friend used it to help her with her speaking abilities and no wonder. This Gem connects the throat chakra with the heart chakra. This connection helps you speak from your heart. It does so in a gentle way, adding compassion. It possesses a calming energy that will help in minimizing stress.

It has many other benefits that I will discuss in this site in the coming months.

Copper

Then there's Copper. Our body is full of it. It is found in the Brain, Liver, and Heart just to name a few places. Most people are aware of its benefits, especially the way it helps with pain, such as arthritic pain. That's well known. But Copper is needed by our body for our healthy, daily living. It must be added through food to our body because the body does not create Copper.


So, what does this have to do with Copper jewelry, you say? Well, wearing Copper jewelry allows small amounts of Copper to be absorbed by the skin. Bracelets are preferable; but all jewelry made of Copper will have this result.

Tainos

The Taíno Indians are a subgroup of the Arawakan Indians who inhabited the Greater Antilles made up of Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola, and Puerto Rico, in the Caribbean Sea.

The Taínos contributed greatly to the everyday life and language of Puerto Rico. Many towns on the island of Puerto Rico still carry Taino names. Much of our vocabulary still uses Taino words. In fact, the words canoe and hammock in the English language originated with the Tainos.

The Tainos were an inventive people and many of their designs were adopted by the Spaniards that Colonized the island. They were also highly Spiritual and had their own religious Cosmology. They sought to please the gods with offerings and by building ceremonial parks.
